U of I graduate instructors go on strike
URBANA -- University of Illinois graduate instructors have gone on strike.
The strike began at 8 a.m. Monday after the union says weekend contract negotiations broke down over the issue of whether or not teaching assistants would be allowed to attend the university for free.
In an e-mail sent Sunday, Interim Provost Robert Easter says the school had no plans to change its policy on tuition waivers.
And in a news release, the university reminded faculty and staffers who aren't union members that they're expected to come to work during the strike.
