Mundelein adopts centennial logo as official village logo

Mundelein officials are so happy with the logo created for the village's yearlong centennial celebration, they're making it permanent.

The color illustration, which depicts a leafy tree against the backdrop of a lake and a starry night sky, now will be the village's official logo. Although the village previously had an emblem that appeared on letterhead and had other uses, it never was formalized, officials said.

The village board corrected that oversight Monday night by approving the centennial design as the town insignia.

The logo was designed by local resident Christa Lawrence for this year's centennial celebration, which included public events, historical discussions, a concert and other events. Lawrence also served on the village's volunteer centennial planning committee.

Lawrence said she's honored and thrilled by the board's decision.

"I'm very excited to see it around the village from now on," she said.

Mayor Kenneth H. Kessler likes the way the design encapsulates various features of the town, particularly Mundelein's lakes.

"It speaks to what Mundelein really is about," Kessler said.

The new logo will be featured on the village's stationery and its Web site. It also eventually will be found on municipal vehicles, replacing the village seal now being used, Kessler said.

Trustee Ray Semple is pleased the logo will have life beyond the current centennial year.

"It leaves a little bit more of a legacy for the centennial committee and all the work they put into (the activities)."
