Contractor breaks Carpentersville water main

A midmorning water main break on Main Street in Carpentersville is causing traffic delays in the village's Old Town area as crews work to repair the damage.

Public works director Bob Cole said about 10:30 a.m., a contractor conducting soil testing for road widening improvements at Route 31 and Main Street drilled through a water main, temporarily cutting of water service to about 20 customers.

Cole said workers were able to restore service to all but one customer as of 4:15 p.m., and anticipated full restoration by 8 p.m. The break closed a section of the westbound lane of Main Street at Lincoln Avenue, just east of Route 31.

Traffic crossing the Main Street Bridge is backed up for a few blocks as flaggers direct vehicles around the incident and is expected to worsen during rush hour, Cole said.
