In U-46 pay freeze equals pay raise
Besides the fact that so many U-46 parents are out of work and struggling, has the school board even thought through these current raises?
Teachers and principals are the "hands-on" folks who may deserve raises, if any. Considering U-46 is already woefully in debt, who can truly say they've done a better job than last year if so many schools in the district did not make the No Child Left Behind marks?
Yes, they are lofty ideals, however, raises should come only if we see school improvement. What other sector in society rewards unsatisfactory work? An administrator will receive almost $20,000 more? I'd like to see the improvement before awarding an Improvement Coordinator over $13,000 a year more.
And why do we give raises to folks retiring? Jane and John Doe will never see "sweetened" packages like that.
Come on, people. Have we had enough, yet? Anyone can see this is wrong, plain and simple.
To Dr. Torres and the school board, we had high hopes for all of you. There are some signs of improvement but these recent raises show a total lack of accountability to us, the taxpaying public, once again. Only in U-46 does "pay freeze" mean "pay raise."
