Suspected Carpentersville stalker charged

An Aurora man was in jail Wednesday on charges he stalked his ex-wife outside her Carpentersville home and threatened to have her new boyfriend murdered.

Antonio Martinez, 40, of the 100 block of Evans Avenue, was arrested about 7 p.m. Tuesday after he went to the Carpentersville Police Department for questioning, Cmdr. Tim Bosshart said.

He is charged with one count of felony stalking, a Class 4 felony with a sentencing range of one to three years in prison or probation.

Bosshart said Martinez on at least two occasions in September surveilled his ex-wife's house on the 100 block of Greene Street from his vehicle parked outside.

He also "had conversations about hiring somebody to kill her new boyfriend," Bosshart said, and threatened to use his vehicle to ram those belonging to any men he saw at her house.

Police said no further charges are expected.

"At this point, I don't have any information he did anything further to hire a hitman," Bosshart said.

Martinez's bond was set at $50,000 and he was taken to the Kane County jail in St. Charles, pending a Nov. 10 court appearance before Judge James C. Hallock. There was no attorney listed for him in court records.
