Fall rummage sale: First Congregational Church, 11628 E. Main St. in Huntley, will host its fall rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16; and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17. Items will be reduced on Saturday to $3 per bag. The large fellowship hall will be filled, as well as many classrooms throughout the church. Elgin CROP Walk: Looking to make a difference in these trying times, the Elgin CROP Walk will step off from Elgin Civic Plaza at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. A portion of the funds raised here in Elgin will to support the seven-day Soup Kettle program in Elgin and many area food pantries, coordinated by Elgin Cooperative Ministry. Elgin CROP Hunger Walk began in 1983 and raised just under $5,500 dollars for Church World Service, an organization that stands with impoverished peoples around the world as they envision and fashion a better future. Since its inception, the Elgin walk has steadily grown in participation of local faith communities, organizations and community members and also grown in the funds raised, for a total of 3113 participants raising over 400 thousand dollars to address hunger globally and locally. Honorary co-chairs of this year's Elgin walk are the presidents of Judson University and Elgin Community College, Jerry Cain and David Sam. This year Elgin's walk will start at 2 p.m. sharp from the Civic Plaza in downtown Elgin, travel south to Festival Park, head north to Salvation Army, and then return toward Civic Plaza. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the plaza, with entertainment provided by with entertainment provided by the Zion Lutheran Church Praise Team followed by a special set by the Christian vocal group, Act of Grace. Sean Feucht comes to Huntley: Join Morning Star Church and The River Church in Huntley for a worship conference with Sean Feucht and his full band on Friday, Oct. 23 to Sunday, Oct. 25. It features intense worship, passionate music and a driving desire to touch the heart of God. He will be accompanied by his full band, including Will Regan, Brandon Hampton, John Romero, Andrea Carr and Terrell Pierce. Feucht is the founder and director of the Burn 24-7. Hayrides and fun: First Congregational Church, 900 S. Eighth St. in West Dundee, is hosting hayrides from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. S'mores, other treats and games are all free. Shop for fall and winter clothing, bedding, books, household items, athletic equipment, toys, jewelry, and more. On Thursday, most items will be half price, with clothing at $3 per bag.
Halloween Fun Night: Good Shepherd Lutheran Preschool will hold its annual Halloween Fun Night at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at its 195 Nesler Road Christian Life Center in Elgin. Kids of all ages can enjoy the fun with storyteller Chris Fascione for entertainment. Every child will receive a bag of treats after a costumed parade. Trunk-or-Treat: For a fun and safe Halloween celebration this year, visit "Trunk-or-Treat" from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at Elgin Bible Church, 1580 E. Chicago St., Elgin. Children may "trick or treat" by visiting many decorated car trunks filled with Halloween candy. There will also be a hayride, puppet show, a maze, food, and lots of games to make it a fun night for the whole family. There will be a $100 Toys-R-Us gift card given away to one lucky door prize winner. The event is free. Wear costumes if you wish. In case of rain, activities will be held inside the church. Fish boil, Rib Fest: On Sunday, Nov. 1, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 401 W. Main St. in West Dundee, will host its annual Fish Boil and Rib Fest. Music therapy: Harre Harren, a music therapist and healer from India, who has conducted hundreds of workshops and lectures worldwide, will hold a series of events in Cary on Nov. 1-5. They will take place at McHenry County's Church of Religious Science, Center for Spiritual Evolution, 204 Spring St. Harren holds a Ph.D in ethnomusicology and has composed and released more than 20 CDs and DVDs of Indian music and melodies, often used for healing and therapy purposes. He is a music therapist and music healer from India. Harre currently heads the College of Fine Arts and Performing Arts and is a special officer for the Culture Department of the Government of Pondicherry, India. He is also chairman of the Society of Music Education, Therapy and Research in Pondicherry and the Indian Music Therapy Research Foundation. On Sunday, Nov. 1, Harren will present two programs. The first will be a Kirtin Chanting and Healing Concert from noon to 2 p.m., followed by a workshop on the Healing Powers of Indian Music Therapy from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Donations of $35 are required to attend both events or $20 a piece for each program. Harren also will teach two-hour evening classes daily from Monday, Nov. 2 to Thursday, Nov. 5. The first is on the "Basics of Vedic Astrology" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A course on Sacred Chants and Mantras, including Diva, Drga, Siva, Ganesh and Krishna will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. Each eight-hour class costs $150. By appointment only, Harren will also be available for private, one-hour Vedic Astrology birth chart readings during the daytime from Nov. 2-5. Holiday in the Halls: Crafters wanted for the St. Thomas More School annual craft fair and bake sale, "Holiday in the Halls" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. Turkey dinner: The United Methodist Women of the Burlington United Methodist Church invite you to their annual turkey dinner. The all-you-can-eat dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the church, 195 W. Center St., Burlington. Carryouts will be available from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. during the dinner. The popular homemade menu features roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, squash, gravy, cranberries, green beans, and many types of pies and cakes. Spirit of Life Chorus: Spirit of Life Chorus, founded and directed by David Barth, will perform at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Church joins Angel Food Ministries: St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Road in Hampshire, is now a host site for Angel Food Ministries. It is dedicated to providing food relief to communities throughout the U.S. helping to feed over 500,000 families a month. For $30, a "Signature" food box can be purchased which includes five to six frozen meats, fresh and frozen vegetables, pasta, eggs, and dessert valued at approximately $60. A Signature box feeds a family of four for $4.30 a day for one week or can feed a senior for about a month. Each month's menu is different. In addition, it offers a senior/convenience meal box, an allergen-free food box and several specialty boxes at varying prices offering items such as steaks, chicken, pork, fresh fruits and vegetables. Orders are now being taken for a Thanksgiving box that provides a complete meal for eight people for $36. Delivery will be Thursday, Nov. 19. Cookie Walk: First Congregational Church, 900 S. Eighth St. in West Dundee, will host its ninth annual Cookie Walk from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The community is invited to this event. Admission is free. Homemade holiday cookies and candies will be available in many varieties and will be sold by weight. Pick your own specialty holiday cookies from the selection; there is no need to bake this Christmas. A boutique of holiday items and handmade mittens, hats and scarves will also be on sale and the church's cookbook, "A Taste of Heaven," for $5 each. Many of the cookie recipes are included. The church provides financial support to six area organizations in the community serving children, families and singles. St. John: On the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, Oct. 18, the Rev. Howard Gleason will preach the sermon titled, "Sabbath Rest" based on Hebrews 4:9-16, at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services at St. John Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Road in Burlington. Fellowship is at 9 a.m. and the Family Education Hour from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. The church will host Lifeline Screening at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. First Congregational: On Sunday, Oct. 18, the Rev. Paris N. Donehoo, senior pastor, will preach on "Polite Company Conversation" based on Genesis 36:6-8 and Philippians 4:10-15 at 8:15 a.m. in the chapel and 10:15 a.m. in the sanctuary at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 256 E. Chicago St., Elgin. Sunday school begins with children participating in the 10:15 a.m. service and then the students are dismissed to their own chapel service and their individual classes. The Chancel Choir will sing "Give Us a Vision" by Joseph Martin at the second service. Breakfast is served at 9:15 a.m. every Sunday when the in-depth Bible study led by Rev. Donehoo convenes. Currently the class is studying the book of Revelation. No biblical expertise or prior knowledge is required; just bring your mind, your heart and a desire to learn and grow. Child care is available. Second Baptist: In recognition of Domestic Violence Month, on Sunday, Oct. 18, the Rev. Nathaniel L. First Congregational: On Stewardship Sunday, Oct. 18, the Rev. Aaron James, senior pastor, will preach a sermon based on Mark 10:35-45 at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. service at First Congregational Church, 900 S. Eighth St. in West Dundee. The Third Sunday Benevolence offering will be donated to the United Church of Christ's Neighbors In Need Special Mission Offering. This offering supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. Two-thirds of NIN funds are used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct service projects. One-third of the offering supports the UCC's Council for American Indian Ministries. Children, age 4 to fifth grade, will begin their worship in the sanctuary with their families at 9 a.m. After the children's message, they will be dismissed to their new Sunday school rotation rooms for Children's Worship Workshops. The workshops included: art, story and drama, Bible games and computers and science and cookery. Classes or groups rotate into a different workshop each week, but stay with the same story for four weeks learning it in-depth through a variety of media. Teachers do not rotate; they stay put in their workshop repeating their lesson to a new group of children each week. Nursery care is available for infants through first-grade from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m.
Sunday's Ministry of Music at the 9 a.m. service will be by the Youth Choir, sixth through 12th-grade vocal choir directed by Charlotte Norman; and the Chancel Choir, directed by Robert Blazek with Linda Gilmore, piano/organ accompanist. The 10:30 a.m. service will feature songs and music by the Praise Singers and Band: Cheri Blazek, Robert Blazek; Sonja Boekenhauer, Penny Mensik and Sue Schmidt with Robert Blazek, saxophones; Mark Frystak, guitar; Linda Gilmore, keyboard; Patrick Infusino, bass and Scott Person, drums.
The high school youth group meets with Chad Coe, director of youth ministries, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The group will travel to a haunted house. Friends are welcome. The middle school youth group will meet from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. Bring your friends, both old and new.
The church serves dinner at the Community Crisis Center in Elgin on a monthly basis. The next meal will be provided Tuesday, Oct. 20. If you are interested in cooking, donating food or delivering the meals, call the church office. Some menu items need to be prepared while others can be purchased and dropped off at the church. Any help is appreciated by the temporary residents.

PADS of Elgin Inc. provides safe shelter, support services and advocacy to homeless individuals in Dundee, Elgin and Hanover townships. King of Glory: On Sunday, Oct. 18, King of Glory Lutheran Church, Hopps and Randall roads in Elgin, will observe the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, with the theme "It's About Christ - Not Me!" based on Mark 10, at the 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. services.
The regular weekly worship schedule includes a more traditional style worship at 8:15 a.m. Sundays, as well as a contemporary style worship at 10:45 a.m. led by the praise team singers and band. Adult Bible classes are held every Sunday at 9:20 a.m. They also offer during the school year various midweek educational opportunities as well as a preschool education for 3- and 4-year-olds, as well as youth programs for various age groups.
