Hall of Fame names announced

Wheeling High School is has announced the 2008 inductees of the school's Athletic Hall of Fame: Mark Newman (Class of 1966), Kristen Stoudt-Hill (Class of 1988), coach Jim Nagel, friend of athletics Keith Vernon, and coach Bob Schulze.

The honorees will be recognized in a ceremony Feb. 1, at halftime of the 7:30 p.m. boys' varsity basketball game vs. Rolling Meadows High School. A reception for friends and family will be held in the school cafeteria following the game. Each inductee will be awarded a Wildcat spirit blanket and a replica of the commemorative plaque that will be displayed in a special place of honor in the school foyer.

District recognizes excellent teachers

The Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 board gave out Celebrating Excellence awards in December. The awards went to: Teresa Daleske, a special education teacher at Cooper School; Amy Kuras, Char McLennan, Jane Rideout and Ellen Swartz, the fourth-grade team at Field School; Susan Chmiel, Debbie Dingboom and Lynda Riggs, the second-grade team at Frost School; Christine Wolff, a seventh-grade language arts and reading teacher at Holmes School; Christine Happ, a music teacher at Kilmer School; Ali Friedman, Ellen Razzoog, Chris Schieffer, the seventh-grade team at London School; Laura Werneske, a first grade teacher at Longfellow School; Jaehee Pak, a second- and third-grade ESL teacher at Poe School; Paris Abel, Winnie Baik, Bev Barton and Jeri-Lyn Koehler, the first-grade team at Riley School; Kathy Switzer, library director at Tarkington School; Joyce Abel, a second-grade teacher at Twain School; and Nancy Zurek, a third-grade bilingual teacher at Whitman School.

Students to sing in choral concert

The eighth-grade chorus students from Aptakisic Junior High School will participate in the District 125 Consortium Choral Concert at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Stevenson High School Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature the four junior high schools that feed into Stevenson including students from Daniel Wright, West Oak, and Woodlawn. There will also be a combined performance with the Stevenson High School Choirs. The concert is free. Stevenson High School is as One Stevenson Drive, Lincolnshire.

NWSRA offers spring camp

The Northwest Special Recreation Association will offer spring camp during the week of March 24-28. Students with disabilities are invited to camp with NWSRA at one of four locations: NWSRA/Park Central in Rolling Meadows, Alcott Community Center in Buffalo Grove, Hoffman Estates Community Center in Hoffman Estates, or the Meineke Center in Schamburg. Camp will be held for students ages 3 to 21, and will include gym activities, crafts, swimming, games, socialization and two community outings.

NWSRA also offers transportation at pickup and drop off locations throughout the northwest suburbs. The fee is $112.50 for each camp. For details, call Emily Meyer, (847) 392-2848, ext. 226.
