'Twilight Zone' staged in Elgin

The Elgin Theatre Company will wrap up its production of "Twilight Zone" on Fridays, Oct. 9, to Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Sears Gallery Theater of the Elgin Academy, 360 Park St., Elgin. Performances start at 8 p.m. for Friday and Saturday shows and 3 p.m. for Sunday shows. This show is not for young children. Expect to be scared. Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for seniors/youth with ID.

Immanuel school to host open house

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Immanuel Lutheran School in East Dundee will open its doors for a community open house. Parents of prospective families, neighbors and interested members of the community are invited to take a look inside the preschool and kindergarten classrooms. Reservations are suggested but not required. The preschool will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for tours. Meet with the teachers and tour the facilities. Information on the curriculum will be available. Children are welcome with adults The kindergarten will be open during class times from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. to allow participants to see the school in action. Reservations are suggested for the open house but not required. All interested members of the community are welcome. Local farms join in Autumn Drive Fest

Eleven farms will be open to the public with a variety of antiques, arts, crafts, produce and gifts for sale during the 22nd annual Autumn Drive Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18. Located between the towns of Woodstock and Marengo on Garden Valley and River roads, the drive follows a country road with fall colors and beautiful vistas. Proceeds from food for sale at the lunch barn will be donated to Faith in Action of McHenry County, and to the Woodstock and Marengo food pantries. The McHenry County Health Department will be on site offering information on free mammograms and cervical cancer screenings for women in McHenry County. Animal House Shelter will be there with dogs up for adoption. All money raised at the Perkins Town Hall will go toward the McHenry County Historical Society. For details, visit autumndrive.net.

Renz Center offers 'Epicurean Delight'

Renz Addiction Counseling Center presents Epicurean Delight!, an evening of taste sensations from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Spartan Terrace Restaurant, Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Observe cooking demonstrations and enjoy a variety of gourmet creations. Complimentary wine tastings, raffle baskets, restaurant gift certificates, Blu-ray player and more. Tickets are $70. Enjoy Octoberfest on Saturday in Elgin

The fifth annual Octoberfest, sponsored by the United Commercial Travelers-Elgin Council 412, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at 280 S. Melrose St., Elgin. Requested donation is $10 and includes German music and food, including bratwurst, Wiener schnitzel and sauerbraten. There will be raffles for a one-night stay at a Holiday Inn whirlpool suite and a $20 gift certificate to Bennigan's; or a one-night stay at Wyndham Suites in Glenview, which includes breakfast for two in the garden atrium. Elgin Lions to learn about Sherman

Terry Dunning, chairman of the board of Sherman Hospital, will speak at the meeting of the Elgin Lions Club at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Holiday Inn, 495 Airport Road, Elgin. The public is invited to attend the meeting. Dunning is probably better known for his career as an auctioneer with Dunnings Inc., but can also inform members about this fall's opening of the new west-side Sherman Hospital being built on Randall Road.
