Deer Park releases survey results

The Deer Park Village Board presented results from its recent community survey at a public forum Sunday afternoon (Oct. 11) at Vehe Barn.

The Village received survey responses from nearly 200 residents, which represents about 10 percent of all adults in the village.

The survey asked residents to rate village services such as police protection, snow plowing, garbage collection and a host of other categories. Residents were also given the opportunity to write in comments at the end of each section of the survey.

Trustees presented highlights from the survey at the forum and also outlined how the Village Board plans to address some of the concerns raised by residents. Those who attended the forum were given an opportunity to address the Board on any topics they chose, and many residents pointed out areas where they felt the Village needs improvement.

Most Village services received a majority of "good" or "excellent" ratings, with the major exceptions being the quality of roads and drainage, mosquito abatement and sport and recreation amenities offered at Village parks.

Village financial services, however, garnered the most votes in the "don't know" category, as many residents felt they didn't know enough about the Village's budgeting process or overall fiscal responsibility to render an opinion.

Results of the community survey are available on the Web site village.deer-park.il.us.

Residents also are invited to attend Village Board meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at Vehe Barn, 23680 Cuba Road.

Anyone wishing to address the Board during the public comment portion can sign up before the start of the meeting. The Board has also scheduled a special committee of the whole meeting for 7 p.m., Nov. 9, at Vehe Barn to discuss its long-range vision for usage of the Barn. The public is invited to attend.
