Warrant issued in Carpentersville slaying

A warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of a Carpentersville man in the shooting death of a 25-year-old man found early Saturday morning with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police are searching for Errick L. Brown, 39, of the 100 block of Amarillo Drive. Brown is charged with two counts of murder in the death of Joseph Vonner, 25, who was found just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday shot in the head on Brown's lawn.

Relatives of Vonner, whose last known address was in Elgin, said the father of five had been staying at the address for a short time before the shooting.

Though both men knew each other, authorities said Monday, Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart on Tuesday declined to elaborate on the relationship. Police said the shooting was not gang related. The death was the village's first murder since August 2007.

Bosshart said witnesses identified Brown as being at the scene, but he would not say if anyone saw the shooting.

The suspect's prior convictions in Kane County include a child restraint violation and other traffic offenses, court records show.

Brown, who is described as black, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds, should be considered armed and dangerous, Bosshart said. Police also said Brown could be in Chicago where he has relatives.
