DuPage lawmaker pleads guilty in DUI case
SPRINGFIELD -- DuPage County state Rep. Bob Biggins pleaded guilty Monday to drunken driving charges stemming from a late May arrest in the capital city.
Biggins, 61 of Elmhurst, faces mandatory counseling, a nearly $1,200 fine and will lose many of his driving privileges. Biggins will be issued a restricted permit good for getting to and from work for the next six months. If he complies with all conditions, his license would be reinstated early next year.
Biggins did not comment after the brief hearing but later sent a statement to the Daily Herald.
"I made a serious mistake and I sincerely apologize to my family, my friends, and my community. I accept full responsibility for my actions and accept the full legal consequences," he said in the statement.
He was arrested at roughly 1 a.m. on May 28 in Springfield and booked on a charge of driving under the influence, improper lane use and no proof of insurance. Biggins did not submit to a blood-alcohol test.
