Support Wheeling HS literary magazine at Nov. 14 fundraiser

Wheeling High School's literary magazine, "Circus," will host its annual fundraiser at Barnes & Noble in Arlington Heights at Rand and Arlington Heights Roads on Saturday, Nov. 14.

All that day, Barnes & Noble will contribute a percentage of every sale made with a special book fair voucher to Circus. Vouchers will be available online at whs.d214.org.

Circus showcases Wheeling student poetry, prose and art. The fundraiser will help the magazine continue printing a free copy for every student at Wheeling, to print more art pages in color, and possibly even to create a CD of original student music and spoken-word.

As a new feature this year, the Circus staff is also working with the Wheeling High School social workers to gather wish lists from less fortunate kids within the Wheeling area. Shoppers may use this list to donate items to this holiday drive.

To encourage the community to attend the event, Circus students are hosting events for a variety of ages, including: Bryan Knight's Knight Time Magic; decorating cupcakes after the "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" storytime; a storytime by Spot the Dog himself; caricatures; face painting; arts and crafts; The Academy of Irish Music; poetry reading and more.

A schedule of these events and times will also be available on the WHS home page.
