Batavia artist to display her work at town center anniversary
Local artist Mizuho Mishina will appear at an opening and display her work as The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Pkwy. in Batavia, celebrates the anniversary of the opening of its new town center. The public is invited to an artist's reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 in the town center's second-floor Centrium Gallery. A painting exhibit and sale will run daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Nov. 22. Evening appointments are available.
The artist's reception will feature a colorful sampling of Mishina's creative work, including her signature textile paintings, kiln-fired fused glass and pieces of jewelry.
Guests also can tour the town center and enjoy an assortment of refreshments while visiting with fellow guests and the artist herself. There is no charge to attend.
Mishina is known for exploring color and transparency through fused glass and painting. She incorporates fibers and textiles into her artwork and has expanded her craft to include cast and fabricated jewelry.
"We are pleased and honored to have Mizuho's brilliant work on display in our community," said executive director Karen Larson. "Our Centrium Gallery, which sweeps the curve of the town center's circular staircase and overlooks the main floor below, was designed to be a perfect venue to feature and complement the work of talented artists."
The $30-million, 138,000-square-foot town center opened its doors one year ago. It is the hub of campus life, offering residents a variety of convenient amenities, including a fitness center, two indoor swimming pools, a sauna and steam room, a living room with a fireplace, a game room and creative arts center and a multipurpose room. There are 48 one- and two-bedroom residential apartments each with a full kitchen, laundry facilities, a living room and dining room, and a master suite.
