White, Antioch swarm past Harlan

Antioch scored very early and quite often.

The second-seeded Sequoits racked up 35 points in the first quarter en route to a 68-6 victory over visiting No. 15 Harlan in the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs Saturday night.

Cameron White added to his Antioch touchdowns record with 5. White, who has 31 this season, returned a kickoff and a punt return for TDS and rushed for 3 more scores. He carried the ball four times for 46 yards in the first half.

Steve Lorenzini added a couple of rushing touchdowns and eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the season. Tom Sears, Fritz Go and Sam Green each scampered for touchdowns as the Sequoits set a school record for points in a game.

The Sequoits (9-0) will host No. 7 Highland Park (8-2) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. according to coach Brian Glashagel.

The Sequoits exploded for 21 points in the first 85 seconds.

"I can't remember, because it happened so fast," Glashagel said. "A lot of work and good coaching by the coaching staff. We executed, Harlan had problems and we had good coverage on our kicks.

"We'll take a win any way we can get it. At this point it's all about winning the games. By one, double-overtime, or by what we can do. We do know the best teams in the state are left."

White took the opening kickoff and returned it 93 yards for his first TD.

"I haven't set the tone before," said White, who had a kickoff return against Grayslake North starting the second half. "It is the most I've scored all year. I guess hard work pays off."

The Sequoits' Alex Pechauer picked off a pass on Harlan's first play and returned the ball back to the Falcons' 7-yard line.

Lorenzini (6 carries, 65 yards) rushed for a 7-yard TD that gave Antioch a 14-0 lead in just 29 seconds.

Harlan (6-4) turned the ball over again on the first play of the next possession, and White found the end zone off a lateral from 11 yards out as the Sequoits led 21-0 with 10:35 left in the opening quarter.

White scored on a 56-yard return and broke loose on a 7-yard run that put Antioch ahead 35-0. White's other TD was on a 14-yard run in the second quarter.

Lorenzini went over the 1,000 yard mark on a 10-yard run.

"The line did real good and that's why I got a 1,000 yards," Lorenzini said. "The line was doing a good job blocking. It's the whole team and the option offense."
