Cardinal should allow Fr. Brennan to stay

I am a member of Holy Family Parish in Inverness. We are endeavoring to keep our pastor, Rev. Pat Brennan. He has been told by Cardinal George that he must leave in July '09.

We recently did a parish survey which showed an overwhelming majority in favor of retaining Fr. Brennan. We also recently sent a petition downtown to reiterate our wishes. Fr. Brennan clearly wants to remain at Holy Family. The only reason given by the Archdiocese for removing our pastor is that he will have exceeded his term.

In recent years many exceptions have been granted including Fr. Jack Wall at Old St. Pat's and Fr. Dewes at St. Anne's in Barrington. Our parish meets many of the requirements for exceptions but we have still been refused.

Why is Holy Family being punished for being a growing, spirit-filled community? I am amazed that the Cardinal is trying to change a parish that is working so well.
