Why would GOP take credit for this?

I received a mailing from our the DuPage County Board - actually, I should say from all of you since it was paid for by my fellow DuPage residents and taxpayers. (Some might call this a government-run mailing.)

Interesting that Bob Schillerstrom is now running for governor, and, in a recession, he found enough of our money to pay for a four-color printing on glossy paper to mail out to all of us. If you have ever paid for a four-color mailer you know this was an extravagant waste of money, but even worse was what I found on Page 2. The board, the overwhelming majority of which are Republicans, took credit for the use of federal stimulus dollars to improve our local roads.

James Healy, a Republican, thanks the local mayors for getting the funds for the communities. The lesson I was taught was give credit where credit is due. Should you really have to teach that lesson to an adult? In a moment of honesty, it might have been nice to point out that had their philosophy won out in Washington, we would have had none of those dollars to spend that they are now taking credit for. The funds would not have been there without President Obama and Democrats in Washington.

There was one piece of refreshing news. Tony Michaelesi (one of three Democrats on the board) is donating about $14,000 of his salary to charities in the district. Since he actually is the one who deserves the credit for this action, he is to be commended. The others show that they are typical politicians, taking credit for things they did not do and willfully misleading the public. Why are people like this considered worthy of office? Shouldn't we all expect better?
