Film series to open with drama 'Luna'
"La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon)," a 2007 drama, will open Aurora University's 2009-2010 film series at 7 p.m. Sept. 17, in Perry Theatre in the Aurora Foundation Center at 1305 Kenilworth Place in Aurora.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The debut feature from director Patricia Riggen, "Luna" tells the parallel stories of 9-year-old Carlitos and his mother, Rosario. In hopes of providing a better life for her son, Rosario works illegally in the U.S. while her mother cares for Carlitos back in Mexico.
Unexpected circumstances drive both Rosario and Carlitos to embark on their own journeys in a desperate attempt to reunite. Along the way, mother and son face challenges and obstacles but never lose hope that they will one day be together again.
The screening will include an introduction and a discussion following the showing by Denise L. Hatcher, associate professor of Spanish, and Eva Serrano, director of school and community partnerships.
The film series is part of AU's "Celebrating Arts and Ideas series, events including art, films, theater, music and lectures during 2009-2010.
