Train station road work begins:
Naperville will begin work to resurface Fairway Drive and the road that loops around the Route 59 Metra station parking lot from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. Parking will be prohibited during the work along both Fairway Drive and the perimeter road. The project will resume Wednesday and continue through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. all three days. The work is part of an effort to improve commuter access at the train station.
Oak Brook half-marathon:
The second annual Oak Brook Half-Marathon starts at 7 a.m. Monday. Registration is $55 in advance and $65 on race day provided not all the 2,000 slots are filled. A portion of the proceeds will support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana and the Oak Brook Historic Preservation Fund. Main Street project:
The grinding and overlay of North Main Street in Lombard has been moved up the village's priority list of projects. The work to improve Main Street from St. Charles Road north to North Avenue will go out for bid during the spring, officials said.
YMCA receives grant:
The Heritage YMCA Group, with branches in Aurora, Naperville and Oswego, has received a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley to help equip a new teen lounge in the expanded YMCA facility in Oswego. The Oswego Y now occupies more than 22,000 square feet in the old Traughber Junior High School at 160 E. Washington St. and has been renamed the Oswego 303 Center. The YMCA already is open, with formal ceremonies and activities scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19. For details, contact heritageymca.org or (630) 551-0797.
