Dwyane Wade to help hometown library

Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade says he will lend a hand to his hometown public library.

Wade, who grew up in the impoverished Chicago suburb of Robbins, said Wednesday he will present a check to the library staff.

Last month, library officials said the facility was running out of cash because of the declining revenue and was on the verge of closing. A federal grant and donations are keeping it open.

Wade told the Chicago Sun-Times his foundation contacted the library staff to find out how much was needed to keep the facility open. He said library staff told of their needs and they agreed on an amount he would give. He did not reveal the amount.

Robbins library director Pricilla Coatney calls Wade's intention exciting.
