Downtown Naperville sponsoring Girls Weekend

Naperville women don't have to go far to have a girls getaway this weekend.

The Downtown Naperville Alliance is serving up four days of shopping, spa specials and fashion shows during the Fall Girls Weekend today through Sunday, Sept. 27.

"Women don't have to think much about this," said Katie Wood, executive director of the alliance. "It's organized and they just need to come and concentrate on having fun and a lot of laughs and getting their wardrobes organized for fall."

Among the special events is a night of comedy aimed at the ladies. The Comedy Shrine will present "Laughtime Comedy Network for Women" and the "Best Friends Forever Game Show" from 8 to 10 p.m. today at 22 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students with identification. There is also a one-drink minimum.

"I've seen this myself and it's absolutely hysterical," Wood said.

For the ladies who didn't stay out too late, there will be a breakfast and informal fashion show from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Catch 35, 35 S. Washington St. Tickets are $10.

Food and fashion return with lunch and a fashion show from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan's, 244 S. Main St. Tickets are $15.

The shows will feature the latest styles that are sold at downtown shops.

"Women love to shop so I think seasonally when new spring fashions or new fall fashions come out it's a welcome weekend to come together and get the latest ... things for fall for your wardrobe or home," Wood said.

The fashion shows have limited seating so Wood recommends calling the restaurants to make a reservation.

Fitness is also on the agenda this weekend. There will be a three-mile fun run at 9:30 a.m. Sunday starting at the Naperville Running Company, 20 W. Jefferson. The run won't be timed but Saucony, an athletic footwear manufacturer, will be on hand to analyze running strides and discuss the proper footwear and apparel.

Throughout the weekend dozens of businesses are offering special sales, seminars, demonstrations, trunk shows, massages and wine tastings. Participating businesses will have orange and burgundy balloons outside their doors.
