Robbery suspect held on $100,000 bond
A Lake Zurich man was ordered held on $100,000 bond Friday after being charged with robbing a 71-year-old woman making a bank deposit.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney John Brown said Marc Marchini, 22, of the 700 block of Columbine Court, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of robbery and aggravated battery.
Brown said the woman, who was employed at the Dollar General store on Route 22 in Lake Zurich, was making a deposit at the Fifth Third Bank on Rand Road about 10 p.m. on Sept. 2. As the woman got out of her car to make the deposit, Brown said, a man wearing a bandana came out of the darkness, pushed her back into her car, grabbed the bank bag and ran away.
Police assisted by a canine unit discovered the bandana and the bank bag behind a store near the robbery scene, Brown said, and Marchini emerged as a suspect because he was a former employee of the store.
Lake Zurich police interviewed Marchini the following day and say he confessed to the crime.
Marchini appeared before Associate Judge Raymond Collins on Friday and was ordered to return to court Sept. 11.
