St. Charles

• Brian Bernard Lewinski, 34, of the 0-100 block of North Seventh Avenue, was charged Sept. 22 with obstructing a peace officer, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license, according to a police report. Police responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in a verbal confrontation between the two drivers. While filling out the accident report, police discovered Lewinski had provided them with a driver's license belonging to another person.

• Brittany Christine Hughes, 17, of the 100 block of Walnut Drive, and Amber Lea Page, 17, of the 100 block of 6 North Woodland Drive, were charged Sept. 21 with retail theft, according to a police report. Store security at Von Maur, 3810 E. Main St., observed the two teens select several items of clothing and enter the same fitting room with all the items. Upon exiting the fitting room, store security verified that a pair of jeans and a shirt were missing from the items the teens took into the fitting room. Security stopped the teens after they exited the store and found the items, which they had not paid for, inside a purse. The estimated value of the two items was about $340.

• Molly Louise Anderson, 38, of the 900 block of 5 North Ridgewood Drive, was charged Sept. 10 with retail theft, according to a police report. Store security at Von Maur, 3810 E. Main St., observed Anderson take a sweater from a display rack and proceed out of the store without paying for the item. Store security stopped her in the parking lot and detained her until police arrived. The value of the sweater was about $98.

• Joseph Anthony Caruso, 26, of the 500 block of 0 S Circle Drive in West Chicago, was charged Sept. 5 with criminal trespass and obstructing a peace officer, according to a police report. Caruso had been removed from a tavern after becoming highly intoxicated and belligerent. However, Caruso continued to re-enter the tavern approximately five times. When police arrived, Caruso began to walk away from police as they tried to ask him questions. Police then grabbed his arm and told him he was under arrest, but Caruso attempted to pull away. Caruso was taken to the ground, but continued to struggle. Once at the police station, Caruso refused to exit the squad car and told police his ankle was broken. Caruso was transported to the hospital. He later turned himself in.

• Ryan Scott McDaniel, 28, of the 900 block of Saratoga Parkway in Sleepy Hollow, and Brendan Patrick Hurley, 24, of the 1800 block of Wessel Court in St. Charles, were charged Sept. 13 with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis, according to a police report. As police came upon a vehicle parked behind a local business, the two subjects jumped out of their vehicle and quickly came over to the police vehicle in "a panicked manner." Police immediately detected a strong odor of freshly burned cannabis on both McDaniel and Hurley. McDaniel admitted to police he had been smoking cannabis. Hurley then produced a clump of cannabis from his pocket and gave it to police. Police then found a device for smoking cannabis and three bags of cannabis in the vehicle McDaniel and Hurley were sitting in.

Kane County

• Two vehicles at one address were burglarized between 10 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday in the 3S800 block of Thornapple Road, Sugar Grove, police said. Both were unlocked. Taken from one were a diamond-and-gold engagement ring, an Illinois identification card, a black leather CD case and 20 CDs. A black Nike bag, a black leather Coach keychain/change purse, a black leather Coach wallet, an Illinois driver's license, an Illinois identification card, an Ohio identification card, a Wells Fargo Bank debit card, a Blockbuster card, a Geico insurance card, a Harris Casinos Players Card, three Ohio library cards, a $50 Visa gift card, a black Canon Rebel camera and extra lens and $1,500 were removed from the second.

• John T. Yelle Jr., 17, of the 300 block of Willowbrook Way, Geneva, was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor at midnight Sunday, according to a police report. Deputies investigating a complaint of a disturbance on the Mill Creek Golf Course reported finding Yelle staggering and swaying on North Mill Creek Drive. When asked if how much he had to drink, Yelle told officers, "Way too much, bunch of beers," the deputies' report said. He repeatedly pointed in to the darkness and said, "there's my friend," prompting deputies and personnel from the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District to use heat sensors to search for another person. No one was found. Yelle was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, and released into the custody of his mother.

• Luke M. Cowart, 20, of the 3700 block of greenwood Lane, St. Charles, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to sheriff's police. They say Cowart failed to negotiate a curve at County Line and Ramm roads in Maple Park at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, left the road, drove through a yard and hit a tree. Cowart and a passenger were taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. Cowart's injuries weren't listed, but the passenger received stitches in his lip and forehead. Cowart was also charged, by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, with possession of marijuana, after an emergency department nurse reported some fell out of his pants pocket.

Batavia

• A man drove off without paying for $25.50 in gasoline at 10:44 a.m. Sunday at the Marathon station at 206 E. Wilson St., according to police.

• A black-and-blue 24-inch boys Trek bicycle was stolen off the front porch of a house in the 300 block of South Harrison Street, it was reported at 2:34 p.m. Saturday, police said.

• A jewelry box containing $10,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen at 9:22 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Kane Lane. The owner said it was stolen during the previous week, according to a police report.

• An iPod charger was stolen out of a vehicle in the 100 block of North River Street, it was reported at 11:41 p.m. Saturday, police said.
