Peoria man was set on fire after death

PEORIA -- Police in Peoria are investigating that city's 10th homicide of the year; the death of a 23-year-old man whose burning body was found in vacant lot.

Police say Harvey Powell Jr.'s body was apparently set on fire early Monday morning after he had suffered head injuries that included one gunshot.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says an autopsy revealed that revealed Powell died of a gunshot wound and blunt-force trauma, all to the head.

Ingersoll says Powell's identity was learned from a partially burned identification card, and verified through fingerprints that were on file from an arrest.

A girlfriend told Ingersoll that Powell has relatives in Chicago and St. Paul, Minn., and had lived in Peoria about seven years.
