Mercury Marine union voting again on concessions
FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The union at Mercury Marine has started voting on a package of wage of benefit concessions the boat-engine maker says it needs to keep 850 manufacturing jobs from moving to Oklahoma.
Mercury Marine spokesman Steve Fleming said voting started early Thursday morning at the union hall near downtown Fond du Lac. Voting will continue until 6 p.m. and resume again Friday morning and run until 6 p.m.
Last month, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local 1947, rejected the package of concessions. The company said the deadline for the seven-year deal passed at midnight Saturday before a second vote was finished.
But the union and company said Tuesday that state and local officials helped find a way for the two sides to agree to another vote. Fleming says results will be announced Friday night.
