Inmon, Schneider to highlight CLC concert series

Music lovers from around Lake County are invited to the College of Lake County during the 2009-10 academic year to enjoy the eclectic musical performances presented by the CLC Music Department ensembles.

The following concerts and special events will be presented in the coming academic year in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the College of Lake County Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Michael Flack Octet: Friday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. CLC Director of Bands, Michael Flack, will perform with his octet of Chicago-area professional jazz artists, playing music from the Dave Pell octet of the 1950s. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

CLC "Jazz Night:" Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The award-winning CLC Monday Night and Tuesday Night Jazz Ensembles will perform a variety of big band jazz favorites. Michael Flack directs the Monday Night group and Dave Hibbard directs the Tuesday Night group. The Woodland Middle School jazz ensemble, directed by Carolyn Awe, and the Warren High School jazz ensemble, directed by Drew Russell, will open the concert. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

Fall Choral Concert: Sunday, Oct. 25, at 4 p.m. The CLC Singers, the Choir of Lake County and the Gospel Choir will perform audience favorites from Charles Clency's five years of choral leadership. As a program finale, the CLC combined ensembles, now comprising a record participation of 125 singers, will perform the traditional "Amazing Grace" and Moses Hogan's "Lift Every Voice for Freedom." Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

CLC Wind Ensemble: Sunday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m. Michael Flack will conduct the CLC Wind Ensemble in a concert of varying musical styles, from classics to modern repertoire. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

Guest Artist Concert featuring the CLC Jazz Ensembles: Sunday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m.

The award-winning CLC Jazz Ensembles will perform a variety of big band jazz favorites, featuring trumpeter and arranger Bob Ojeda, formerly of the Count Basie Orchestra. Michael Flack directs the Monday Night group and Dave Hibbard directs the Tuesday Night group. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

CLC Holiday Concert: Sunday, Dec. 13, at 4 p.m. Join the CLC choirs and the Wind Ensemble for this annual tradition of seasonal music and holiday cheer. Tickets sell quickly for this event. Tickets are $6 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

CLC Concert Band: Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The CLC Concert Band, under the direction of John Mose, will present a concert of varying musical styles, from classics to modern repertoire. CLC "Jazz Sunday" Concert: Sunday, Feb. 28, at 4 p.m. The CLC Monday Night Jazz Ensemble, directed by Michael Flack, and Tuesday Night Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dave Hibbard, will perform a varied selection of jazz music in this annual winter concert. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

CLC Wind Ensemble Concert With Guest Conductor Susan Taylor: Sunday, March 14, at 4 p.m. The CLC Wind Ensemble will perform music from both the classical and modern wind band repertoire, featuring guest conductor Susan Taylor, director of bands at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

Gospel Choir Concert: Sunday, March 20, at 4 p.m. This concert will highlight the best of exciting traditional and contemporary gospel music by CLC's fast-growing Gospel Choir, under the direction of Charles Clency. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

Spring Choral Concert: Sunday, April 18, at 4 p.m. This concert concludes the 2009-10 season of choral music. Program highlighting music of CLC's three vocal ensembles, the Choir of Lake County, the Gospel Choir and the CLC Singers, all under the direction of Charles Clency. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.

33rd Annual Guest Artist Concert Featuring Trumpeter David Inmon, Bassist Nick Schneider and Drummer Bob Rummage: Sunday, May 9, at 4 p.m. Lake Forest Symphony and Ravinia Festival Orchestra trumpeter David Inmon will perform with the CLC Wind Ensemble. Stan Kenton and "Tonight Show" band bassist Nick Schneider will perform with the CLC Wind Ensemble. Also, Stan Kenton and "Tonight Show" band bassist Nick Schneider will perform with the CLC Monday Night Jazz Ensemble along with Woody Herman drummer Bob Rummage. Tickets are $6 general for admission and $5 for CLC staff, students, Alumni Association members and seniors.
