TV3: O'Keefe biopic focuses too much on sex
Arid O'Keefe
A fine cast, including Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble member Joan Allen, largely goes to waste in the new Lifetime made-for-TV biopic "Georgia O'Keefe." Allen is sharp in the title role as one of America's greatest painters, and Jeremy Irons is terrific as Alfred Stieglitz, but the story dwells too much on their sexual peccadillos and not enough on the love - and the love of art - that drew them together. Still, it's worth checking out at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, on Lifetime.
Harris doctors Emmys
Neil Patrick Harris, former child doctor on "Doogie Howser, M.D." and now co-star of "How I Met Your Mother" and erstwhile song-and-dance man on "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," tries to insist TV's Emmy Awards still matter when he plays host to the ceremony at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, on WBBM Channel 2. Here's hoping Kanye West shows up to contest some of the categories.
Kurtis returns to Ch 2
Bill Kurtis returns to the TV site of his glory days in the Channel 2 newsroom, even if he's only coming in the side door as the host of syndicated reruns, when the CBS affiliate picks up A&E's "Cold Case Files" at 1 a.m. weekdays starting Monday, Sept. 21. Kurtis will also contribute the syndicated spinoff "The Cold Case Minutes" when it bows during the 10 p.m. newscast on Channel 2 on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Trojan horse hockey
Brad Pitt as the Greek hero Achilles? Talk about a hoot and a half. Yet, if you allow for the Hollywood studmuffin casting, "Troy" actually turns out to be fairly faithful to Homer's epic poem. It runs at 6:30 p.m. today on FX.
