Aurora pedestrian struck, killed by SUV
A 46-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a SUV Friday morning in Aurora was just three months away from being paroled and released back into society, authorities said.
Authorities said Kendra Cunningham of Aurora was walking south on Farnsworth Avenue at 5:36 a.m. near the eastbound I-88 exit ramp when she was hit by a southbound 1996 Chevrolet Blazer being driven by a 57-year-old DeKalb man.
Cunningham was transported by paramedics to Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Januari Smith, spokeswoman for the state department of corrections, said Cunningham was working at a local temp agency while serving the remainder of a three-year forgery conviction at the Fox Valley Work Release Center at 1329 N. Lake St.
She said Cunningham was set to be paroled in January 2010 and was attempting to reintegrate into society while working at the agency.
Farnsworth Avenue was closed for about three hours between Molitor Road and Corporate Boulevard, as were both southbound exit ramps off I-88 onto Farnsworth Avenue.
Police do not expect to issue any citations in connection with the incident, spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.
