Art in the Barn brings stable of fine works to Barrington

The 35th annual Art in the Barn fine art and crafts exhibition and sale returns to the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington this weekend.

Art in the Barn was conceived by 10 women, artists and craftsmen, who wanted to bring an event to the area that would not only present and sell quality art, but educate visitors about what "quality art" was all about.

At the same time, the Barrington-area auxiliary was working toward the dream of building a hospital.

These two visions merged to form a fundraising effort for the hospital Auxiliary - the first was held in 1975 - that now attracts thousands of people from around the region and has raised more than $2 million for the hospital to date.

At Art in the Barn, original can be found on the grounds, in the lower barn, the upper barn, the corn crib and machine shed.

More than 170 artists - working in acrylic, ceramic, drawing, fiber, jewelry, oil, glass, photography, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor and wood - have been selected by a jury of experienced specialists.

In addition, there's children's activities, including art activities and pony rides; a brat tent and other food from a variety of vendors; and live entertainment by the Barrington Children's Choir, Second Wind, Suzuki Strings, Big Sky String Band, Joyful Noise, Bataille Dancers, Lee Bassett, Reunion Jazz and Jeweled Ice.
