South Elgin steps off 7K run, 2 mile walk

The South Elgin Parks & Recreation FUNdation and the village of South Elgin will host the fifth annual 7K Run and 2 Mile Fun Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The event will begin and end at the Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St., South Elgin.

A challenging 7K course will provide a scenic run throughout the village. The fun walk will take participants down the picturesque Fox River Trail. Race registration begins at 6:30 a.m. More than 300 people are expected to participate. Local business owner, Bob Kearns will emcee the race.

"We are very excited to bring the fifth annual Harvest Hustle to the village this year," said Mary Rohr, president of the FUNdation. "This event gives us the opportunity to promote healthy activities for our residents, while raising money to support important initiatives."

All participants will receive participation awards with additional awards for best performance in the following categories: Top Five, 14 and younger, boys and girls; Top Five Female Runners, 15 and older; Top Five Male Runners, 15 and older.

The cost to participate in 7K Run is $20 pre-race day or $25 on race day. The 2 Mile Walk costs $10 pre-race or $15 race day. Also offered are a Family pre-race rate of $8 for the walk or new this year, a corporate pre-race rate of $8 per person. Registration will be accepted in person at village hall, 10 N.
