Algonquin man still in the running

Algonquin's Julio Gomez, a contestant on "The Biggest Loser," pulled his weight on the show Tuesday night, and he's still in the running for the $250,000 prize.

After barely surviving elimination by the skin of his teeth last week, Gomez, 40, quickly became persona non grata in the house, with contestant Shay Sorrells saying Gomez wasn't working hard enough to lose the weight, doubting anyone could count on him and rooting for him to fail.

Moreover, the trainers also said Gomez wasn't doing the work and pushed him to the limit during the last chance workout to make sure he didn't slack off any further.

But Gomez, who started the show carrying 407 pounds, briefly silenced Sorrells when it was revealed he lost 19 pounds - the most of any of his peers - during the infamous second week, notoriously one of the hardest times on the show to post any weight loss.

He knew he had something to prove to everyone and came out swinging.

"I have a real life at home and people who count on me and I'll be damned if I'm not going to do this right," Gomez said.

This week, the remaining 15 contestants had to lose 150 pounds.

But because they did so well in several team challenges, that number dropped to just 115 pounds.

The trainers still didn't think the team would pull out the win and were sure two people would be going home - the penalty for not losing the weight.

That was enough to motivate everyone, and in the end, the contestants lost a combined 155 pounds, which meant no one got sent home.

Now, everyone advances to week three.
