Taking issue with Burt on Kennedy
The accolades from Burt Constable in regard to Ted Kennedy and our government reek of ignorance and dependency. I dispute everything printed in that column.
"Government" is defined as "workers who rushed into the World Trade Centers." Those "workers" are not the government that I see. Our police and firefighters are anything other than a product of the Ted Kennedy government. I am glad to pay taxes for their service.
Your reference to torture is an insult to those who insure our security. Have we ever cut the heads off our enemies? Do you know what a terrorist is?
Your reference to sending your kids to school is naive. Would you send your kids to a Chicago Public School? It has one of the nation's worst records for dropouts. At least some of that record is due to poor government.
Our family paid for private education and we are pleased with the results. Will the government refund my property tax that was used for inferior education that we never utilized? Your reference to unemployment, social security and your mom's new knee are totally overlooking that fact that we pay for that. Are you aware that every business pays for unemployment?
Social Security is not an entitlement. It is a poor return on what we paid for over most of our lives. It is used as operating cash for the Ted Kennedy government. I wish I could have opted out of it, as Kennedy did.
Where was government when Senator Kennedy left a young woman to die in a car wreck? There are numerous incidents that reflect his privileged character as anything but good. You have the good fortune to write an opinion in a daily newspaper without any counter point. I hope my opinion gives you another view to digest.
