McHenry County Sheriff burns another pot farm
McHenry County Sheriff's police over the weekend destroyed an estimated $580,000 in marijuana plants discovered growing in a cornfield near the Wisconsin border.
Authorities said police Friday located about 580 cannabis plants, each between 3 and 5 feet tall, in three separate areas near Route 173 and Keystone Road, just west of Richmond. The plants, sheriff's police said, were growing in rows and ready for harvest.
The growing operation was eradicated and the marijuana plants were burned at another location, sheriff's police said. Nobody was arrested and, unlike some previous discoveries of large growing operations, there was no indication anyone was living on the property while tending to the plants.
Anyone with information about the operation is asked to call the sheriff's Narcotics Division at (815) 338-2144 or Crime Stoppers, (800) 762-STOP.
