What's up with grocery prices?

I have noticed that two well-known grocery stores are advertising lower food prices, some items as much as 20 percent. If these stores are able to make a fair profit with these discounts, one has to wonder if they have been "feeding" us untruths during the last 10 - 15 years when they said that they have the best prices. What I have found about Meijer, Walmart, Target and Woodman's is that they have always offered a fair price for their food items. The other thing that I have found at these stores is that they treat each customer as a "preferred customer" without having to show a silly plastic card to prove it.
