St. Charles teen arrested on charges of wielding machete
A 14-year-old St. Charles boy was arrested recently on charges he brandished a machete during a confrontation between two rival gangs in St. Charles.
Police on Monday reported they arrived at the 100 block of Walnut Drive Sept. 14 after receiving a report of armed subject at what appeared to be the makings of a fight between two rival factions.
Witnesses told officers they saw one of about 15 males gathered at the scene lift up his shirt and display "what appeared to be the pistol grip of a handgun sticking out of his waistband," according to the police report.
An investigation revealed it actually was the handle of a machete a 14-year-old male was carrying in his waistband. No firearm was part of the incident.
The teenager was referred to Juvenile Court Services and released to the custody of his parents.
