Semitrailer driver cited in crash that injures 2

A Wednesday afternoon crash at Route 38 and LaFox Road in Campton Township sent two drivers to the hospital, and damaged two cars in a nearby parking lot, police said.

A semitrailer truck traveling east on Route 38, approaching LaFox, apparently failed to stop for a red light, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Department. It hit a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck that was turning east onto Route 38 from southbound LaFox.

The Dodge was pushed southeast into the front parking lot of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, where it hit an unoccupied Chevy S10 pickup truck. The Chevy then struck an unoccupied Pontiac Montana van.

Nurdin Brzovic, 35, the semi driver, and John Kalchbrenner, 60, of Oak Lawn, the Dodge driver, were transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, according to police. Their conditions were not immediately known, but neither had life-threatening injuries.

Brzovic, of the 800 block of South Lorraine Avenue in Wheaton, was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and disobeying a traffic control device, police said.

The vehicles in the parking lot belonged to two of the church's preschool teachers, said the Rev. Phil Ressler. Preschool had already been dismissed for the day.

"It is an intersection that has had its problems," Ressler said, adding that accidents declined after a traffic signal was installed about five years ago. Before that, it was controlled by two-way stop signs for LaFox.
