Veggie Tales comes to St. Charles church
You won't have to go to the grocery store Tuesday to get your daily dose of veggies.
You'll be able to find them all at Christ Community Church as Veggie Tales comes to town.
The live show, which features the popular talking vegetables, will take the stage at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the St. Charles church.
The talking vegetables have become well-known for their tales that help teach children about God and a host of character traits such as honesty, kindness and respect.
Tuesday's show, God Made You Special, will take parents and children through a journey that teaches the value of individual differences as the cast of vegetables looks for its missing pal, Bob the Tomato.
"It's a family friendly event that anyone can come to," said Brian Beatty, communications director for Christ Community Church. "Through the song and through the acting and the drama pieces, the kids are going to get a wholesome message."
This is Veggie Tales' first national tour and Christ Community Church is hosting the only Chicago-area show. The 80-minute show features music, lights, confetti cannons, bubbles, interactive video screens, disco balls and a cast that includes a tomato, cucumber, gourds, asparagus and carrots.
The show Tuesday, which is open to anyone, will culminate a six-week children's program at the church centered around the latest movie from Veggie Tales, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything." Through the weeks, children have been learning about various heroes featured in the Bible and learning about how they can be heroes too, said Jill Roberts, early childhood coordinator at the church.
Recently, the church also hosted Veggie Tales creator Phil Vischer, formerly of the Chicago area. Hosting a live show following the children's program and Vischer's visit seemed like a "natural extension" Roberts said.
Although nearly 2,000 tickets already have been sold for the two shows, tickets still are available online. To purchase tickets visit www.ccclife.org and click on the Veggie Tales live show icon.
