Dunne, Buffalo Grove get it done against Regina

Buffalo Grove girls basketball coach Pat Dudle said his team would really like to be above .500 by the end of today.

The Bison looked pretty good in getting to .500 (2-2) in a 65-40 win over Regina on Friday in the fourth round of the Bison Classic.

The six-team round-robin tourney ends today when BG meets Maine South at 2 p.m.

KC Dunne's driving 6-footer capped a 15-3 run by the Bison to start Friday's game.

The 5-foot-7 junior guard finished with a game-high 16 points despite missing several minutes while having her knee examined.

"She just tweaked it (late in the first quarter), thank goodness for that," Dudle said. "She really sets the tone for us defensively. She always guards the other team's best perimeter player and she is just fantastic going to the basket."

The Panthers did have another perimeter player, senior guard Frannie Pasquale, step up and hit five 3-pointer for 15 points.

Pasquale is 15 of 32 from the beyond the arc in five games.

Junior Andrea DiPrima added 10 points for BG while classmate Emily Georgoulis tossed in 8.

Senior Heather Nisbet and freshman Bailey North chipped in 7.

The Bison hope for another solid effort today.

Maine South (3-2 overall) is tied for first in the tourney with Libertyville and Barrington. All three are 3-1

"This gives us confidence for our game (with Maine South)," Dunne said. "We know they are a good team and we are looking forward to playing them on our home floor."

"We were able to get our first win on our home floor," Nisbet added. "We wanted to redeem ourselves losing here in our first game. We knew we had to come out hard and we did a better job of finishing this game. Everyone played well. We rebounded, got out on their shooters and got in the passing lanes."

Regina coach Jim Russo Panther's (0-5, 0-4 in the tourney) graduated four starters.

"We've got a hole to dig out of," Russo said. "We're young.

"Pat's got a nice team. Their guard line is pretty solid and they play hard as a team. It's only his second year and he has a nice group."

That "guard line" includes DiPrima and Georgoulis, who each tossed in a pair of 3-pointers Friday.

"In the first half, we created a lot of points from our defense," Dudle said. "Then we were not very disciplined and Regina made a nice comeback (closed to within 21-13 but trailed 28-16 at the break). In the third quarter, we were a bit more disciplined and extended our lead."
