Quinn to name Christopher Kennedy to U of I board
Gov. Pat Quinn won't challenge the two University of Illinois trustees who refuse to resign in the wake of an admissions scandal at the school.
Quinn said Wednesday that trying to fire the trustees would launch a long legal battle. He says the university should not have a "cloud of litigation" hanging over it.
The university has been rocked by disclosure of clout and political influence playing a role in which students are accepted.
A special commission called for all nine trustees to resign, but James Montgomery and Frances Carroll say they've done nothing wrong and won't step aside.
Quinn named two new trustees Wednesday, Christopher Kennedy and Lawrence Oliver II.
Kennedy is the son of Robert Kennedy and nephew of Edward Kennedy. Oliver is chief counsel for investigations at the Boeing Co.
