Preserving fire history:
Residents can learn how they can donate or loan materials to help preserve the Naperville Fire Department's history during a session from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at Naper Settlement's Pre-Emption House Tavern, 523 S. Webster St. The Naperville Heritage Society's Public Safety Preservation Project is seeking photographs, artifacts, clothing, badges and awards, paperwork and memorabilia. The group also is seeking active and retired firefighters and friends and relatives of firefighters for oral histories to record their firefighting experiences and fire-related stories. For details, call Sarah Buhlig at (630) 548-1115.
Save money with library card:
Throughout September, Naperville Public Library card holders can save money at more than 70 businesses that have signed on for the Show Us Your Library Card, Naperville! campaign. By presenting their card at participating businesses, library patrons can receive discounts and special offers on merchandise and services that include food and beverages, entertainment, car services, children's activities and printing. To learn what businesses are participating, pick up a brochure at a participating business, the library or go online at naperville-lib.org. For details, contact Becky Hollis at (630) 961-4100, ext. 2200 or bdhollis@naperville-lib.org.
