D-lightful win for Prospect
Prospect's defense had struggled in its last two games, allowing 76 points.
Prospect was dominant on defense against the Huskies, allowing only 86 yards of total offense in a 40-0 Mid-Suburban East win.
The Knights were no slouches on offense either, led by quarterback Miles Osei and running back Peter Bonahoom.
Osei threw for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for 2 more, while Bonahoom had two running TDs and caught an Osei pass for another.
"It was nice to get out there and stop somebody," said Prospect (5-1, 1-1) coach Brent Pearlman. "We did some different things tonight, played some different people, and there's more changes coming. We're not satisified with where we are right now.
"We played well, but we can play better. Still, it's always good when you come out and play defense the way we did tonight."
Though it gave up 40 points, Hersey (0-6, 0-2) was staunch on defense in the first half when it appeared the Huskies would go into the locker room trailing only 7-0.
But a long Osei touchdown pass, then a Hersey fumble and another Prospect score in the final two minutes of the half put the Knights up 20-0 at halftime.
"That was the story of the game," said Hersey coach Mark Gunther of Osei's 42-yard strike to John Coen on fourth down with 1:42 left before halftime. "We have them stopped and then they throw a 40-yard bomb with a guy draped all over the receiver.
"Then we fumble and they score again, and I think that kind of took the wind out of our sails. That's what Prospect does, but we've got to continue playing after something like that happens. We can't let it cause a letdown."
Osei's rushing touchdowns came from 8 and 3 yards out, while he passed 43 yards to Bonahoom for another score.
Bonahoom's 146 yards of rushing included touchdown runs of 28 and 22 yards.
"We got back to basic offense tonight," said Pearlman. "Too many guys had been trying to make big plays. We had a few long drives, and we're going to have to have that kind of ball control later in the season."
Alex Vaile rushed 19 times for 41 tough yards for Hersey, whose coach was proud of their effort despite the final score.
"Our defense played really well tonight," said Gunther. "They gave the maximum effort."
