Millions announced in Illinois research funding, including Fermi
Millions of research dollars will go to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois.
U.S. Sen. Roland Burris on Tuesday announced the federal stimulus money from the Department of Energy. Burris says the funding will go for important scientific research projects and will create "essential and much needed jobs."
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia will receive $60.2 million for research including work on next-generation particle accelerator technologies. Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne will receive $5.6 million for improvements at its Advanced Photon Source.
The Illinois funding is part of $327 million nationally announced Tuesday by the federal Energy Department.
