Route 53 work is, indeed, on
The Route 53 construction has caused some uncertainty for residents, and I wanted to take this opportunity to clear up any confusion regarding the project that is currently underway.
The construction is split into two different projects. The stretch between Lake Street and Irving Park was under construction for about a week before work started between Army Trail Road to Lake Street. My office has received phone calls from residents concerned that the resurfacing would not take place after they saw construction crews fill potholes on the roadway.
I have confirmed with officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation that the portion of Route 53 from Army Trail Road to Lake Street is, indeed, going to be resurfaced. However, one of the first steps in the construction project is to fill the potholes to make the surface level for the new asphalt.
I will continue to monitor this construction and keep you posted on any new developments as this project is vital to our community.
