Man charged with murder of girlfriend's son

LINCOLN -- A 38-year-old Lincoln man is being held on $5 million bond in Logan County after being charged with killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.

Lincoln Police Chief Stuart Erlenbush says Ty C. Cline was arrested Wednesday at a relative's Bloomington residence.

Erlenbush says Cline is accused of fatally beating young Lucas Tyler Alberts while he was baby-sitting for him Saturday night.

The boy's mother, Jody Alberts, drove her son to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln on Sunday morning. The boy was later flown to Children's Hospital of Illinois at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he died Monday afternoon.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said Lucas died of head injuries caused by blunt-force trauma.
