What's so offending about other lifestyle?
As I am hopeful I am not the only respondent to this, I don't know whether to laugh or be shocked at Sue A. Smith's plea (Don't publish gay wedding notices, Aug. 25) with the Daily Herald to discontinue posting gay wedding notices. Surely during a time in our existence in which we consider ourselves to be the most advanced, accepting, intelligent, and logical versions of the human race to date, she must be joking.
Her trivial dislike for a lifestyle is childlike and ridiculous. Should we also be apt to think that if the Herald were to only consider heterosexual marriages legitimate because of her "historical" definition, then maybe we should also revert to "historical" definitions on the subjects of slavery and women's suffrage?
Perhaps her family's notices can also be stricken from the Herald's pages as my culture has defined to me that real people do not live in Bloomingdale. I would love to have the opportunity to sit down with this woman and discuss just what is so offending to her about someone's lifestyle that is not her own.
