Power restored at Will Co. nuclear reactor
BRACEVILLE -- Offsite electric power has been restored at a Will County nuclear reactor that shut down last week.
Exelon Corp. spokesman Paul Dempsey said offsite power was restored Sunday at the Braidwood Generating Station Unit 2 in Braceville. The station declared an "unusual event" Thursday when the reactor shut down because a transformer caused power loss.
Dempsey says the "unusual event" status was canceled Sunday and work now is ongoing to get the reactor back online.
The station originally made a loud noise as it shut down because of released steam, but there was no health or safety risk to workers or the public. Exelon says local, state, and federal government officials were notified.
Braceville is about 50 miles southwest of Chicago.
