One road access to Fox View to help stop crime

Entry and exit to Carpentersville's Fox View apartments will be limited to one drive as the village and the complex's management continue efforts to clean up the area.

The village board recently approved the closure of Oxford Road at Bolz Road, limiting access to Fox View from Kings Road and Oxford Road. The target date for closing the Bolz Road entrance is Monday, Aug. 24.

In a news release, village officials say the closure will reduce the amount of drive-through traffic of nonresidents and allow police and security to better monitor vehicles entering and exiting the property, which should ultimately improve the community.

Police have said much of the criminal activity that has plagued the apartment complex is due to nonresidents using the complex as a meeting place or relatives and friends of residents partaking in illegal activities.

The village has assured residents the new configuration will not interfere will the services from the police or fire departments, the United States Postal Service, Community Unit District 300, and Pace Suburban Bus Service. The new turnaround area will serve as the primary bus stop for the Pace bus service.

Spend locally: West Dundee residents, don't forget to look out for your discount cards in the upcoming village newsletter. There are two cards: one for retailers and the other for restaurants in the village. While all restaurants involved with the discount card program offer 10 percent off, local retailer have individual offers. The list of merchants and their respective deals are included in the newsletter for reference. Local businesses will have a limited number of additional cards on hand for patrons.

The cards will afford cardholders discounts at more than 20 retailers and about a dozen restaurants, including local chain establishments. The card is part of West Dundee's efforts to promote local businesses and encourage people to spend their money locally.
