U.S. players aware of Moodie's approach
Though she was all smiles Wednesday while meeting the media, European player Janice Moodie has earned herself a bit of a reputation for her match play demeanor, at least in the eyes of U.S. captain Beth Daniel.
"Janice Moody, she'll get under your skin," Daniel said. "She's going to try to get under my players' skin.
"I've warned them already and will continue to warn them because match play is a completely different animal."
Daniel has reason to be concerned. Look no further than Moodie's 81 percent win percentage (6-1-1), the highest in Solheim Cup history.
"I've played match play so many times as a youngster; maybe that's why I have that competitive edge," said Moodie, who recorded an ace on the 16th hole during Wednesday's practice round. "It's just a completely different game, you know?
"It's not a marathon. It's not 'after four days we'll see who the winner is.' You have to do it right there and then."
Message delivered: Not that they need any extra motivation after reading, hearing and being asked constantly about their underdog status in the 2009 Solheim Cup, but the European team got a little this week in the form of a video message from Jose Maria Olazabal.
"It was just lovely to see it from a Ryder Cupper and probably a future Ryder Cup captain," Laura Davies said. "It was just Ollie being Ollie, and it was just absolutely fantastic. I think everybody was pretty shocked.
"I was shocked that he would take the time out to make us that video. It was really nice."
Junior mince: The United States team recaptured the PING Junior Solheim Cup, outscoring Europe 15.5 to 8.5 following singles matches Wednesday at the Aurora Country Club.
"The score doesn't show how close it was," U.S. captain Nancy Lopez said. "I'm so proud of my team for never giving up. They played with heart and are a fantastic team."
American players going undefeated through all three rounds were Sarah Brown, Tiffany Lua, Alexis Thompson and Kristen Park.
Weather warning: Officials at Rich Harvest Farms cleared the premises at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday as a precaution due to approaching storms.
