Resthaven to host ice cream social

Memory loss support group meets

Oak Crest Residence, in affiliation with the Greater Illinois Alzheimer's Association, offers a support group for family members of persons with memory loss from Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The support group meets on the third Tuesday of every month at Oak Crest Hope Cottage Memory Center, 204 S. State Street, Elgin. The next meeting is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18. Historian to speak at Brown Bag series

What happens to neighborhood grocery stores when they are replaced by supermarkets? Historic architectural researcher Rebecca Hunter will summarize her study of Elgin's neighborhood groceries from the 1880s to the present at the Elgin Area Historical Society's Brown Bag Lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Old Main Museum, 360 Park St., Elgin. Hampshire church to host golf outing

St. Charles Borromeo Church in Hampshire will host its annual Golf Challenge, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Marengo Ridge Golf Course, 9106 Harmony Hill Road. Sign-in is at 12:30 with shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cart, 18 holes of golf, practice balls and dinner $90 per person. Buffet-only tickets $20 per person. Sign up now for skin cancer screenings

Get a free skin cancer screening from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 29, at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital Bob and Edna Meadows Regional Cancer Care Center, 77 N. Airlite St., Elgin. The screening is free of charge, but performed by appointment only by Suleman Bangash, DO and Jake Klaustermeir, PA.

Car fans invited to Milk Pail Classic

The Milk Pail Restaurant will hold its 11th Milk Pail Classic Car Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the restaurant, off Route 25, just north of I-90, in Elgin. Rules of the Road offered in Elgin
