U of I admissions flap taking up too much ink

I find all the attention given to the scandal at the University of Illinois regarding their admission policies a bit strange. With all the problems in Springfield, this seems to be the only newsworthy story. We still do not have a balanced budget and there is no indication there will be any solution to the budget problems we are facing in this state.

I have read about the addition of benefits for veterans and the paying of utility bills for low-income families. These are programs that should be addressed after we have a balanced budget and can pay for the programs we already have.

While the practices of admission at the University of Illinois were not fair or honest and should be corrected, somehow I was not surprised to hear about them. However, the budget problem is huge and is being ignored in the news.
