Guilt about eating off Tigerwood

On the Aug. 23 front page of the Homes Plus section, August 23 paper, I read of the joys of the perfect kitchens in the featured families' homes. The "star of the show is the massive multilevel island topped with an exotic piece of granite surrounded by Brazilian Tigerwood."

I wondered if Tigerwood is an endangered tree and part of the ecological conflicts in Brazil where people and wildlife are perishing in the battles over the rain forests. My answer came as I turned to Page 2 and read the article on the latest flooring trends uncovered by the World Floor Covering Association: "... these new vinyls are inspired by nature in terms of design - offering tropical wood looks that provide an aesthetic alternative to endangered woods like Brazilian Rosewood, Tigerwood and other rain forest species".

Now that my question is answered, I would feel guilty about eating off that countertop.
